You know what’s metal as heck? Studded tires. They’re like the Rambo of bike tires, equipped with metal studs that’ll keep you from slipping and sliding on icy roads. Plus, they’re so cool, you’ll feel like a total stud riding on them.
Studded tires have a rubber casing with little metal or carbide studs embedded in each tread block. They’re like the punk rock version of regular tires. The studs are typically 3-5mm in length and spaced out evenly to provide maximum coverage.
These bad boys are often used on mountain bikes, fat bikes, and commuter bikes during the winter months. But watch out, because they can be a bit of a heavy metal burden, making your bike feel slow and sluggish. Plus, they can be louder than a Slayer concert when riding on dry pavement. And don’t even get me started on the price tag.
If you decide to ride with studded tires, make sure to channel your inner James Dean and ride with caution. Even with the extra grip, you’re not invincible. It’s important to ride at a slower speed and avoid sudden movements, unless you want to slip and fall harder than a lead guitarist on stage. And don’t forget to rock other winter cycling gear like warm clothes and lights, so you can shred the gnar safely and in style.
Adam did an incredible job with my bike. I had a tune-up done initially and a follow up to get winter tires put in. He took care of finding the right tires for me, ordering and installing. Great service, very responsive and would highly recommend!
